June Meeting
Tuesday, June 9, at 7:00 p.m.
Social time 6:30

June Meeting
The June meeting is about name tags and handwork. Maybe you don’t have a name tag, or maybe
it’s time for a refresh, or maybe your name tag has been misplaced. At the meeting, we’ll have some
social time while we make new ones. If you don’t want to make a new name tag, come anyway and
bring some handwork.

Please bring hand sewing supplies including scissors, a needle, thread, cute buttons or other
embellishments if you have them (Trish Millonig will bring some extra decorative buttons), and a 31⁄2”
x 5” piece of fabric of your choice for the back of the name tag. We’ll supply the printed white fabric
for the front of the name tag, batƫing, magnetic name tag holders, pinking shears, and hot glue.
There will be two sewing machines available for those who wish to use that instead.
This will be a fun chance to be creative.

Eagan Community Center
1501 Central Parkway, Eagan, MN 55121

Meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  Each meeting is about 2 hours. The meeting starts at 7:00 but people start arriving at 6:30 for social time.  The meeting is structured as follows: announcements, a speaker or topic and show and tell. All are welcome regardless of your skill level. Join in and share ideas and the love of quilting.

Visitors - Visitors are welcome!  The first meeting you attend is free.  Subsequent visits  cost $5 to help cover cost of the space and continuing programs.  We hope you will consider joining the guild, it is $36.00 per calendar year. Dues are pro-rated if you join later in the year.

Directions: The community center is off of Pilot Knob Road between Lone Oak Road and Yankee Doodle Road in Eagan.  Turn west off of Pilot Knob onto Center Parkway.  Follow the Center Parkway to the sign for the Eagan Community Center and turn right.  Follow the signs for "all deliveries" which is the second right turn.  The road will wind around to the lower level of the parking lot.  Enter through the lower level door and look for the sign indicating our meeting room, normally the second door on the left.  If you park on the main level and enter from the main entrance, you will take the elevator or stairs down.

UPCOMING MEETINGS:

July Meeting

.

Calling our quilt historians and keepers of old quilts!

We’ve had such great history and design lessons from Jean McElvain and Sharyn Resvick, it got me thinking about what
else we have hiding in this group. If you would like to bring in n old quilt or two to share (along with any history), please
email Julie Finch ([email protected]) so I can organize a program around them.
And if you’re a history buff, please email me as well so that you can participate.

*If you have an idea, topic, or speaker to suggest, please send a joint message to Julie Finch and Jill Lawrence.

Other Activities:
Community Service
Our current projects continue to focus on the following organizations.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace,
www.facebook/com/SHPSouthMetro and shpbeds.org
This is a national nonprofit organization that provides beds and bedding to children in need.
Quilts should be approximately 60” x 80”.
We’ve donated close to 100 quilts to this group. Beth Kobliska has a contact person for dropping off quilts.

 360 Communities
www.360CommuniƟes.org
This organization accepts quilts of all sizes and distributes them with various organizations throughout Dakota County. They have a drop-off site in Burnsville. DCSQ has donated many quilts to them in the past.

Quilts for Kids

This national nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing quilts to comfort kids facing serious illnesses, trauma or abuse, or national disasters. Wildflower Quilt Company in Lakeville is a local drop-off site.
Preferred quilt sizes are 38” x 44” up to 40” x 46”.

 Bundles of Love Charity

They provide clothing, bedding, and other necessities for infants in need, including correctly sized clothing for premature infants, infant burial garments and keepsakes for families who have suffered the loss of a baby, and “comfort” items such as quilts, hats, and booties for sick infants in hospital intensive care units. They accept donations of fabric and supplies; see the
website for details.
Preferred quilt sizes are 36” x 48” up to 40” x 50”.

 Meals on Wheels placemat project
Trisha delivered 100 placemats to the Hastings chapter of Meals On Wheels at the end of March. They were very appreciative and thought the placemats were all beautiful. Trisha will be checking with other local chapters to see if they are interested in some as well. Thanks to everyone who has participated.
