Here’s some information you’ll need for getting your quilts ready for our upcoming “UFO Sightings” quilt show.
Hanging Requirements
LARGE quilts (greater than 45” wide) will need a sleeve on the back top edge. Cut a strip of fabric the width of the quilt top and 10” wide. Fold in half lengthwise and sew a ¼” seam. Hand- or machine-baste to the top edge of the quilt back. Tack down the folded edge so the sleeve doesn’t show.
SMALL quilts (less than 45” wide) will need a sleeve on the back top edge. Cut a strip of fabric the width of the quilt top and 5” wide. Fold in half lengthwise and sew a ¼” seam. Hand- or machine-baste to the top edge of the quilt back. Tack down the folded edge so the sleeve doesn’t show.
Table runners will be hung lengthwise on the small quilt racks, so put the sleeve across the shortest side. Cut strip 5” wide and sew as above. Tack down the folded edge so the sleeve doesn’t show.
All quilts need to be labeled with at least your name for identification purposes.
Delivering Your Quilts to the Museum
Bring your quilts to the Dakota County History Museum, 130 3rd Avenue North, South Saint Paul, on either Thursday, February 8, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., or Friday, February 9, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
After you enter the museum, come up the stairs to the second floor, and we’ll be in the room at the back to take your quilts.
