We are encouraging all members to submit a quilt for the show-especially if you
have not done so in the past. Don’t be intimidated by quilts you have seen in past shows.
Remember we were all beginners at one time.
We will have more information later including a demonstration on making and applying your
sleeve. Let us know what other questions you might have.

Entering Your Quilts for the Quilt Show

It’s pretty simple to enter your quilts.
1. First, fill out a Quilt registration form for each quilt you will be entering. Forms will be available at the January, February, and March meetings also. Give the forms to Rosemary Root at the meeting. You can also mail forms to Rosemary Root, 309 18th Ave. So., So. St. Paul, MN 55075, or you can email the information to [email protected] (be sure to include all the information). The deadline to receive the forms is March 3, 2026.
Note that we are limited in the number of queen- and king-size quilts we can show and they will be taken on a first come, first-served basis.
2. Sew a sleeve to the quilt to use for hanging it.  Sleeve directions
-  LARGE quilts (greater than 44” wide) will need a sleeve on the back top edge. Cut a strip of fabric the width of the quilt top and 10” wide. Fold in half lengthwise and sew a 1⁄4” seam.
Hand- or machine-baste to the top edge of the quilt back. Tack down the folded edge so the sleeve doesn’t show.
-  SMALL quilts (less than 44” wide) will need a sleeve on the back top edge. Cut a strip of fabric
the width of the quilt top and 6” wide. Fold in half lengthwise and sew a 1⁄4” seam. Hand- or machine-baste to the top edge of the quilt back. Tack down the folded edge so the sleeve doesn’t show.
-  Table runners will be hung lengthwise on the small quilt racks, so put the sleeve across the shortest side. Cut strip 6” wide and sew as above. Tack down the folded edge so the sleeve doesn’t show.
In addition, all quilts need to be labeled with at least your name and phone number for identification purposes. This can be as simple as a piece of muslin with the information written with a permanent marker that is then safety-pinned to the back of the quilt.
Any questions, call Trisha Millonig
3. Deliver your quilt(s) to the Dakota County Historical Society Museum, 130 3rd Avenue North, South Saint Paul, on Thursday, March 13, from 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m., or Friday, March 14, from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. There will be signs directing you as to where to take the quilts.

Quilt Challenges

We have had two quilt challenges going on, and each group of quilts will be
displayed together in the show. One is last year’s Seed Packet Challenge, and the other is this year’s 250th Anniversary of Signing of the Declaration of Independence Challenge (250DI). The  250DI Challenge quilts must be 24"x24" and should be registered as described above. There are boxes to check on the entry form to indicate the challenge quilts. Viewers’ choice prizes will be awarded. If you have any questions, email Rosemary Root.

Volunteer Opportunities

Show Set Up - Saturday, March 7th 9:00a - done
We’ll be setting up the racks and hanging the show on March 7 at the museum, starting at 9:00 a.m. There will be people on hand who’ve done this before to show you what to do. Lunch
will be provided.

Work a shift in the store - Show dates and hours
You can take a shift in the quilt show store during the run of the show.

Show Take Down - Saturday March 28th.
You can help with take-down, on Saturday, March 28th

Small Quilt Auction.

We will also have a small quilt auction, which raises money for DCSQ, this year.

The small quilts should be, of course, small: around 24” by 24”.
Bring your small quilts to the March meeting and give them to Trisha Millonig so she can prepare them for the show.
She will have a form that needs to be filled out for each auction donation.
